ADMISSIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Holy Angels Academy is a non-profit, independent, private, Catholic school incorporated under the laws of the state of Kentucky and recognized by the Archdiocese of Louisville.  While maintaining independence as a private entity, Holy Angels Academy recognizes and respects proper jurisdiction of the local bishop of the Archdiocese of Louisville in matters relevant to instruction in doctrines and beliefs of the Catholic Church.  The Academy enjoys full membership in NAPCIS (National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools).

ADMISSION POLICIES

NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

Holy Angels admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, and athletic and other school administered programs.

Holy Angels, however, does not have the personnel nor the facilities to effectively address the needs of children who have emotional or behavioral problems or learning disabilities that require special programs.

CATHOLIC FAMILIES

Holy Angels Academy as a Roman Catholic school professes to support all the teachings of the Catholic Church as pronounced by the Magisterium.  It is assumed that Catholic families seeking admission support the Academy in this profession and would only contribute to the harmonious spirit needed for their children to fully benefit from the education offered at Holy Angels.

FAMILIES OF OTHER FAITHS

Families of other Faiths are welcome to inquire, but preference is given to Catholic families when considering space available.  When families of other Faiths are accepted it is understood that they support the policies contained herein including the policy that their children will be receiving religious instruction in the Catholic Faith, and that they will be expected to attend Holy Mass and take part in any religious devotions or activities of the Academy.  Parents of children of other Faiths, as do Catholic parents, further agree that their children are not permitted to debate the validity of Catholic teachings.  However, this does not prohibit honest inquiry.

Any participation in secular activities that is expected of Catholic students is also expected of students of other Faiths.  These may include civic activities that support a moral position compatible with the beliefs professed by the Catholic Church.  One such example would be pro-life rallies opposing abortion held on school premises or elsewhere.

READMISSION

In the event that a family withdraws from Holy Angels and then expresses a desire to re-enroll, the Academy may refuse enrollment or require the family to complete the interview and registration process once again.  Reasons to refuse readmission could be anything deemed by the administration to be detrimental to the harmony at Holy Angels Academy.  Reasons may include but are not limited to the following:

1.                   Previous lack of support for the philosophy or policies of the school by parents or students.

2.                   Previous lack of cordial cooperation with, and support for, the teachers and administration.

3.                   Previous withdrawal that reflected negatively on the reputation of the Academy or its teachers.

4.                   A determination by the administration that a student acclimated to another program will have difficulty readjusting at Holy Angels.

It is understood that there are legitimate reasons for the withdrawal and reentry such as relocation, etc.  However, it is important for the stability of the Academy that a “revolving door” situation is avoided.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Admission to the Academy is premised on the following:

      FIRST – Pre-registration information

After reviewing initial information, those interested in pursuing enrollment must complete a “pre-registration” form and send it to the Academy with requested documents,

A visit to the Academy may be arranged beforehand, but only by appointment.  Please contact the Academy at least one week prior to the day you wish to visit.  This is designed to be a brief visit to observe the general atmosphere of the classroom instruction and of the Academy as a whole.

      SECOND – Satisfactory interview

Should pre-registration information indicate that a student is still eligible to pursue enrollment, then the family will be notified to arrange an interview.

The student or students must be present with at least one parent.  It is strongly recommended that both parents attend.  This session may last from one and one-half hours to two and one-half hours, depending on the number of students present and the number of questions asked.  Prospective students should bring something with them to occupy their time, such as a book, coloring book and crayons, small video game, etc.  A good part of the interview is directed to the parents and it may be difficult for children to remain attentive.

This is an opportunity for the high school or grade school principal to expound upon the philosophy of the school and the implementation of such.  Included is an explanation of the parental role at Holy Angels within the framework of the Academy’s structure.

Pope John Paul II’s statements in his encyclical Familiaris Consortio regarding the parents as the first and most important teachers of their children and their responsibility to support the Catholic school are addressed.  It also provides the opportunity to speak with the children, observe their behavior and discuss any academic or other concerns with the parents.  Evidence of a sincere desire on the part of the parents to support the entire program must be observed. Parents are afforded the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about the Academy.  The attitude of the child, depending on age and other factors, may be taken into account.

Although Holy Angels is family oriented, it is requested that children under school age (other than small infants) not be in attendance.  It is also requested that only the children whose enrollment is considered be in attendance.  The undivided attention of the parents is very important.

THIRD - Academic and behavior history

Satisfactory scores on previous report cards and standardized tests regarded as adequate for placement must be provided. Home schoolers must provide documentation.  Also, evidence of satisfactory behavior is required.  Incoming freshman are expected to take the high school placement test administered by the Archdiocese of Louisville.

FOURTH – Statement of Parental Agreement

This must be signed and returned with the application after the above criteria is met.  It is not to be returned with the pre-registration form.

      FIFTH – Application

The application must be completed in its entirety and submitted with the current registration fee.  This fee is nonrefundable.  Book fees are due upon registration unless indicated otherwise by the Academy.

      SIXTH – Records

All medical records and other documents must be submitted by deadlines established by the Academy for enrollment to be officially in force.
