EIGHTH ANNUAL SISTER ELISE BENEFIT Saturday, April 2^nd, 2011 Featuring John Garcia of Saint Joseph Communications Founder of Sober for Christ and Expert on the Study of Islam Mr. Garcia will be presenting to our guests a talk on the subject of Islam Johnny Garcia is a Catholic Christian and attends Sacred Heart Parish in Covina and is a Knight of the Immaculata. Johnny made his total Consecration to our Blessed Mother through the Militia Immaculata in 2008 which Saint Maximilian Kolbe founded in 1917. John shares his "What to Do Kit" for Overcoming Addictions through Christ which includes the Daily / Weekly Spiritual Exercises and Living SACRAMENTS which are crucial in the Christian battle relating to "Concupiscence" or the Tinder to Sin and the wiles of the evil one. He shares his powerful conversion from a life of addictions back to Holy Mother Church. John speaks around Southern California for the Catholic Resource Center and Saint Joseph Communications. He, also, facilitates a weekly Catechetical study group focusing on the "Life is Worth Living" series by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. John is the founder of Sober for Christ which is an informational website containing resources for families dealing with addictions around the country. His website has been featured on EWTN's Reason for Faith Live Radio Show with Jesse Romero and Terry Barber and Straight talk with Jesse Romero on Guadalupe Radio. John is also a representative for Lighthouse Catholic Media a non profit organization which focuses on evangelization. John is also a regular guest on Straight Talk Catholicism Live with Jesse Romero on Guadalupe Radio 87.7 FM in Los Angeles. John founded Sober For Christ to give people with addictions and their loved ones who are praying for them the weapons necessary to combat the movements of concupiscence and the designs of the evil one who is Satan. We are all part of the Mystical Body of Christ and we must all come together in unison to our Eucharistic King with Sanctifying Grace by way of frequenting the Sacraments to overcome self, the world and the devil. My prayer is that my testimony will inspire all those who hear it to fall deeply in love with Jesus Christ and His Bride the Church. My presentation will illustrate the importance of confession and bowing our heads in humility in gospel truth to live a life in Christ. Those who struggle with addiction, their family and friends alike will be given the weapons and spiritual exercises to live a faithful and prayerful life, including the ability to break down the Chains that bind down our very soul. At the end of my talk, everyone will understand the meaning of "Concupiscence" and why we wrestle with it. The benefit consists of a dinner, speaker, live music, and silent auction. In addition to helping to bring in much needed income for the Academy, the Sister Elise Benefit is an outstanding opportunity for our families and the community in general to hear stirring words of faith and encouragement from some of the best authentically Catholic speakers in the world today. Recent speakers at the Sister Elise Benefit have included Father Benedict Groeschel, Father Andrew Apostoli, and Dr. Ray Gaurendi. Sr. Mary Elise Groves, O.P. October 11, 1912 - July 28, 2003 Our event honors the memory of our beloved co-founder, Sr. Mary Elise Groves, O.P. who proclaimed the truth and taught the truth to so many. Sr. Elise was born and raised in Louisville and entered the Dominican Order of St. Catherine, Kentucky, in 1932. She devoted many years to the Catholic education of children as a principal and a teacher and also served as a prioress in Memphis. Among other contributions, she established a study club in the 1950's to expose the danger of atheistic communism. She was also well known in Louisville for her pro-life activity. Sr. Elise was the first principal of Holy Angels and continued to teach at the Academy until the age of eighty. At great personal sacrifice, Sr. Elise was the persevering force behind the survival and growth of Holy Angels Academy.
